Recently I have read one interesting article in net that is “Earth Hour”. Earth Hour day will celebrate all over the world in March 27, 2010 from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm local time. So what is Earth Hour? According to Wikipedia the definition is as follows.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights.[1] Following Sydney’s lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2010 will take place on March 27, 2010 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., local time.

World don’t pride for this 60 minutes earth hour

All around the world there are celebrations and people are pride that they are saving electricity by switch off 60 minutes per year during this earth hour. There are lot of celebrations, savings of electricity and Criticism about earth hour; I don’t want to repeat here since it is too lengthy. But you can read from this Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Hour

India. Tamilnadu is leading in celebrates EARTH HOUR

What I have to mention here is the world population whoever pride to save the electricity should be envy with Tamilnadu people. In India Tamilnadu state keeps daily 3 to 4 hours power cut. In summer (during April to June) this power cut could be even more than six to seven hours. The governments who are ruling Tamilnadu they never bother about this electricity cut. When the current chief minister karunanidhi sworn as chief minister there are lot of power projects were signed. But year after year the power cut hours (earth hour) increased.

Tamilnadu electricity minister Arcot Veerachamy never mind. He as usual tells that there is no power cut during winter. When summer starts then he maintains there is only two hour power cut across Tamilnadu. Last year there are lot of factories were closed, particularly spinning mills, knitting factories, power looms were closed for half of the day since the three phase current was more scarcity.

As usual Tamilnadu state people never mind. Males are enjoys evening at Tasmac shops (government arrack shops). Females are enjoying their day with TV Serials.

hi, Whatever the author wrote about Tamilnadu is true. Neither WWF nor Sydney Morning Herald can claim it is their own idea. They have started this event from 2007 only. But our TN CM Dr.Kalaignar and Mr.Arcot Veerasamy are pioneers in this field as they started power cut from 2006 itself i.e. as soon as they assumed power. They have not applied for Patent right for this innovative power-cut idea and published Logo as WWW & Sydney Morning Herald did. It shows their humbleness and how clearly they understood Tamilians. Tamilians! Be proud as we are pioneers! Jai Ho!
